College is all about making adult decisions and learning to become independent. One of the biggest steps you’ll make after going to college is moving off-campus and into your own apartment. While there is a lot to think about when choosing NC State off-campus housing, here are some of the main things you should consider.
You Must Have a Realistic Budget
As a college student with limited funds, you have to make sure you are budgeting correctly if you are going to take on the extra expense of having an apartment. Unlike living in the dorms, you will now be responsible for paying rent, utilities, et cetera. Make sure you are choosing a place based on your income alone, and not based on how much you and your roommate earn together. This way, if your roommate moves out, you will still be able to maintain your apartment alone.
When searching for NC State off-campus housing, try to choose a place that is within close proximity to the campus. Even if you have a vehicle, cars do break down, so you want to make sure you can get to your classes should anything happen. Also, if you can find an apartment that has lots of amenities, this can save you time and money as you can workout and entertain right in your building. Keep in mind that the more amenities you have, the more expensive your place might be.
